Welcome to
Hog Hollow Horse Trails
Hog Hollow Horse Trails is the best way to explore diverse activities at the foot of the Tsitsikamma Mountains on South Africa’s Garden Route on horseback or in the comfort of a horse-drawn carriage; while supporting rescue horses who help township children rebuild trust.
Hog Hollow Horse Trails is based on Askop Road, The Crags, and offer trails on horseback through magnificent natural beauty to attractions in the area, including wine farms, Animal Sanctuaries and a picnic spot on the spectacular Kurland Estate.
Our Horse Drawn Carriage tours are based at Kay and Monty Wine Estate on Redford Road, and offer trails in a vintage horse-drawn carriage between two boutique wine estates to enjoy wine tastings, cellar tours and an optional tapas-style lunch.
WHAT WE’RE ABOUT
We are able to care for and build our herd of 33 (and growing!) rescue horses through our trails on horseback and horse-drawn carriage and work closely with horse welfare societies in our area to offer a forever home to animals in need. Most of these animals come from backgrounds where trust in terms of humans has been broken down entirely due to abuse and neglect. We build the horses’ security by incorporating them into a vast herd, allowing them to roam freely in large camps, enjoying contact, being part of a social hierarchy and build their trust settling them into a daily loving care routine where human touch is consistently warm, considerate and caring. Our staff are trained to build a relationship of mutual respect and consideration with each horse. In turn, our horses extend their renewed trust in humans to children from the local township in our Rescue Horses Rescue Humans Programme. Our website has the details on this programme as well as our volunteer programme.
