Our permitted marine excursions offers our guests the opportunity to have an unforgettable close encounter with various whale species (seasonal), dolphins, seals and a myriad of birds, sharks and pelagic fish. Alternatively, stretch your legs on the magnificent Robberg Peninsula Nature Reserve, where the diverse fauna, flora and spectacular views will leave you breathless in more ways than one. 

At a more relaxed pace, accompany one of our resident guides on a Cultural Tour, where you might visit our creche, a local church service or see the kids practice their musical skills.

Dolphin Encounters

Passengers are asked to check in at the Ocean Blue Adventures Shop, which is located in the Milkwood Centre, Hopwood Street, Plettenberg Bay, approximately 30 minutes before the planned departure time.
Prior to departure, clients will be equipped with life-jackets (and ponchos, if necessary). Once this is done, all passengers will have a Pre-Trip Briefing, where your guide will explain the trips and safety aspects.
Once passengers have boarded their boat, the trip commences with an exciting beach launch through the surf. While the routes may vary, depending on weather, animal distribution and sea conditions, a typical trip runs as follows:-
Heading east past the bird sanctuary, we make our way along Keurbooms beach towards Arch Rock. Along this stretch, we usually encounter Bottlenose and the rare Indo-Pacific Humpback dolphins, as well as some shark species.
From Arch Rock we cross the bay where pelagic sea-birds are normally to be found some 7km from the shore. Bryde’s whales may also be seen, as well as Common dolphins.
Having crossed to the point of Robberg Peninsula, we may venture out to the Wild side, occasionally seeing groups of whales and pods of dolphins.
Cruising back along the inside of Robberg, we see the unique geology from this unusual perspective and can observe our growing Cape Fur Seal Colony. At certain times of the year, it is also possible to see numerous Great White Sharks, which frequent the area.
Finally we head back along the Robberg beach, while a brief run-down on the history of the area is given.
After passing the Beacon Island Hotel, built on the site of an original Whaling Station, . end the experienced with an exhilarating “James Bond” style landing on Central Beach.

Cultural Township Tour

Guests are asked to check in at the Ocean Blue Adventures Shop, which is located in the Milkwood Centre, Hopwood Street, Plettenberg Bay, approximately 15 minutes before the planned departure time.
Here you will sign in for the tour and meet your guide, who is a resident of the Qolweni community you are about to visit. You will be given a bottle of water and snack for the tour. Guests will be accompanied by the guide in their own vehicle to a safe parking area adjacent to the township.
From there you will walk to the Siyakhula crèche, meeting some of the locals along the way. At the crèche, you will be entertained by the kids with songs and a look at their school. Please note that the crèche is closed over the weekend and in school holidays, in which case the tour will focus on meeting the locals and learning about the history and culture of the area.
At the end of the tour, you will return to Ocean Blue and bid farewell to your guide.
Trip duration is 1 to 1.5 hours.

Whale Watching Encounter

Passengers are asked to check in at the Ocean Blue Adventures Shop, which is located in the Milkwood Centre, Hopwood Street, Plettenberg Bay, approximately 30 minutes before the planned departure time.

Once passengers have boarded their boat, the trip commences with an exciting beach launch through the surf. While the routes may vary, depending on weather, animal distribution and sea conditions, a typical trip runs as follows:-
Prior to launching, your skipper will have determined the route with the highest likelihood of spotting whales.
Most recently, our highest success rate is to head offshore to what we refer to as the Humpback Highway. This is a passage of water from the Robberg Point across to Natures Valley and the Tsitsikamma Marine Reserve, where migrating humpback whales are often encountered en route to their breeding or feeding grounds.
Occasionally we also head along the Keurbooms Beach in search of breeding groups of Southern Right Whales. This area is also a popular hang-out for Bottlenose and Indo-Pacific Humpback Dolphins.
Depending on time constraints and location of whales, we also try to visit the Cape Fur Seal colony at Robberg Peninsula, with a chance of spotting endangered Great White Sharks.
Finally we head back along the Robberg beach, while a brief run-down on the history of the area is given.
